Retired NASA astronaut and commander of the International Space Station Scott Kelly rent Donald Trump’s proposed military “space action, ” calling it a litter of coin that could jeopardize harmonious room exploration.

“It’s not clear to me what the purpose is of this new division of the military, which is going to be incredibly expensive, ” Kelly said on MSNBC on Friday. “My big concern here is that seat has been a lieu for us to be employed in a peaceful manner. Changing that with not any clear conclude at this point is … hard to understand.”

Kelly likewise pointed out that gap artilleries are restricted by international treaties that the U.S. “has been a party to since the 1960 s.”

Trump announced in June that he was sending the Pentagon to create a “space force” military fork. He boasted his new coerce at his Pennsylvania rally Thursday night.

Trump has characterized mastery of space as a national certificate publish, saying he does not require “China and Russia and non-eu countries conducting us.”

In March he told a Marine Corps audience that “space is a war-fighting arena, just like the estate, air and sea.”

Many reviewers have said such a branch would repeat several works previously provided by other military sprigs, which Kelly agreed with.

Kelly indicated the president instead focus on the ongoing cyberwar with Russia instead of envisaged futuristic room confrontations.

“How about we are tackling the war we’re currently in? The cyberwar that is trying to affect our republic, the thing that’s more significant to the United States, which is free and fair elections, ” Kelly said.

“We’re currently in a conflict right now. We should worry about that one and worry about campaign in space later.”
